What I'm Reading

STORIES I’VE READ AND ENJOYED THIS MONTH

As profiled in my newsletter.

April 2022

Clean Start at Forty-Seven

NORA PHOENIX

Kinsey is done hiding who he is. Pretending to be straight, to be the loving, devoted husband and successful ER doctor everyone wanted him to be has been exhausting.

He numbed the pain any way he could, and in the end, it cost him everything--his job, marriage, and the relationship with his grown kids. Now he's clean and working with a personal trainer he's very attracted to, but the trainer is his son's best friend. And twenty years his junior. And also a Daddy looking for a forever boy.

To Touch the Light

E.M. LINDSEY

Estranged from his family and locked in a demanding job which monopolizes all of his time, Head Chef, Mario Garcia, doesn’t exactly have holiday spirit. He spends all season creating magic for others, and for himself, he’s resigned to another lonely winter. There’s a reason he’s known as the Devil in Fairfield Resort’s high-end kitchen, and he has no plans to change that. What most people don’t realize, however, is that Chef Garcia has a soft spot for one man—a half-blind, Russian dishwasher who is the first person in years to make Mario feel.

Sigh. This holiday story is really quite perfect. I loved how these two lonely stumble around falling for each other when they weren't looking for anything like what they found in each other.

Heartache & Hoofbeats

MAZ MADDOX

Like all centaur shifters, Sheriff Calhoun is the epitome of honor. He protects his small town of Stallion Ridge and its people from any threat large or small.

When word comes in that the notorious Iron Bandits are making a play for a train in his territory he’s both livid and invigorated. If anyone can bring these thieves to justice it’s him and his crew.

What he did not expect was having a charming, whiskey-eyed outlaw dumped in his lap that challenged everything he thought he knew.

Really, you had me at centaur shifters.
