What I'm Reading

STORIES I’VE READ AND ENJOYED THIS MONTH

As profiled in my newsletter.

The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics

OLIVIA WAITE

I don't read a lot of f/f, truthfully, but I have friends who do and I recently bought this highly-recommended book for my bisexual teenage niece. She texted me that she was really enjoying it so I had to check it out myself so we could talk about it.

Whoops, it's steamier than I expected, so I should probably apologize to her mom for turning her onto this (heh, again! and yeah no, I won't). It's delightful, though, and I really liked it too.

There's a small twist at the end that I saw coming but really, a lovely, lovely book. Nicely sexy, too!

Criminal Intentions S1.E1 "The Cardigans"

COLE MCCADE

Another book that's been multiply-recommended and I finally bit the bullet and bought.

When a string of young queer men turn up dead in grisly murders, all signs point to the ex-boyfriend—but what should be an open-and-shut case is fraught with tension when BPD homicide detective Malcolm Khalaji joins up with a partner he never wanted. Rigid, ice-cold, and a stickler for the rules, Seong-Jae Yoon is stunningly attractive, but as impossible to decipher as this case.

It's vivid and compelling but it's also pretty freaking dark. Largely because it's so vivid. I love both the main characters and I'll surely read more, but boy howdy, did I need the lighter Lady's Guide after this one.

Say You’ll Be Nine

LUCY LENNOX

This was an easy, mostly enjoyable read. From the blurb:

One dilapidated cabin in need of renovation.
Two
stubborn men pretending to be a couple.
Three
summer months to get the job done.
Four
tangled legs in only one bed.
Five
cameras catching it all for YouTube.
Six
 hundred thousand Instagram followers.
Seven
 nosy family members with Opinions.
Eight
thousand reasons they should never fall in love.
Nine
 million reasons why they will.

Freedom

E. DAVIES

The setup to this story is utterly absurd and barely credible--an agoraphobe (Jaden) gets dragged to a gay bar by his brother, who bids on a blind date for him and wins and then he's dropped in the middle of the Grand Canyon on a glamping trip with a total stranger (Henry) and they fall in lust/love instantly.
But I really liked both characters and there aren't a ton of m/m romances with trans guys out there, and E. Davies has been on my TBR list for a while. Once they got home from their ludicrous trip, I really enjoyed their developing relationship.
