What I'm watching
Below - second half
Okay, I LOVED the first five episodes of Below. The giant squid monster is legit terrifying and the characters are great. The Newfoundland accent and speech patterns are delightful and I was completely invested in the show. So much that we put off watching the last episode to draw out the suspense and not have it end so fast.
But then we watched the finale. Which, I’m sad to report was really rather a letdown. It’s like they realized they had to end it (maybe sooner than they’d planned?) and they couldn’t figure out how to do it properly so they just…wrapped it up. Too neatly and…kind of boringly. I don’t know whether they ran out of budget or creative ideas or what.
Don’t get me wrong—I love a HEA. I read romance, for heaven’s sake. I’m a big fan of wrapping everything up with everyone happy with where they are and who they’re with.
But this ending almost didn’t make sense. And it’s almost like there’s an entire episode between the main part of the finale and the last scene or two that’s missing. I won’t spoil the whole show by asking the questions I have here. And I’m still glad I watched it because the rest of the episodes were worth it. I’ll just…pretend it’s not over yet, I guess.
In the final scene, the two main characters go out on a boat and see two giant icebergs some distance away and there’s some ominous music so maybe that’s meant to be a cliffhanger for a season 2? I dunno.
