What I’m doing
Canadian Maritimes Road Trip: PEI
I’ve wanted to visit Prince Edward Island pretty much since I read Anne of Green Gables. So we couldn’t go to PEI and not see the house that inspired L.M. Montgomery’s most famous book.

Maud didn’t actually live in this house—it belonged to some cousins—but she lived nearby, in her grandparents’ house, and visited her cousins a lot. And she definitely modeled the house Anne Shirley lived in with Marilla and Mathew Cuthburt after this house. There’s a whole Green Gables Heritage Center, complete with hiring Anne lookalikes to hang out on the grounds for photo ops.

Anne and Gilbert Blythe playing cards.

Honestly, this headstone really should say: Ewan MacDonald, husband of Lucy Maud Montgomery, but whatever.
