Canadian Maritimes Road Trip: Nova Scotia

So, a storm rolled in our second night on PEI. A slow-moving, rather severe storm with rain and a lot of wind. It wasn’t too bad when we left PEI to drive to Cape Breton Island but got steadily worse as we went.

We arrived around 3:00 and would have done some sightseeing if the weather had been better but the chalet we stayed in was a charming place to hang out in and read.

That book I mentioned I’ve been reading—Fall On Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald—is set on Cape Breton Island so I started reading it out loud on the road. Once we set up in our chalet, I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening reading to my wife and Giles.

The wind got fierce as the evening went on. The weather app said gusts were up to 50 mph but I know what 50 mph gusts sound like (we get big winds on our Maine island) and I’m quite sure these gusts were stronger than that.

And then the power went out.

We did wake up to a full rainbow over the valley the next morning.

Still no power, though.
