A Murderous Relation - Deanna Raybourn

Book…what am I up to now? 5? of the Veronica Speedwell mysteries and still enjoying them.

Set in autumn 1888, Veronica Speedwell and Stoker are recruited by Lady Wellingtonia Beauclerk to prevent a royal scandal involving Prince Albert Victor and an exclusive London club. The investigation intensifies as London is being terrorized by Jack the Ripper, with Lady Wellie suspecting the prince's involvement. The pair goes undercover at a high-class establishment where a murder occurs, forcing them to uncover secrets threatening the monarchy.

All of these things combine to keep Veronica and Stoker from banging (natch) but there’s way less agonizing about whether they will bang or not. Which got right tedious in the last book, so that was a relief. I enjoyed the mystery in this one too and Prince Albert Victor is delightful. On page, anyway; he probably would have been far less delightful as king, which he never got to be, as it turns out in history.
