Don't Let the Forest In - CG Drews

High school senior Andrew Perrault writes twisted fairytales for his closest friend, Thomas Rye. When Thomas's abusive parents vanish and he shows up at school with blood on his sleeve, Andrew grows worried. Thomas is haunted and has stopped drawing the monsters from Andrew's stories. Andrew then finds Thomas fighting a monster in the forest: Thomas's drawings have come to life and are killing people close to him. The two boys battle the creatures every night, but the monsters grow stronger as their bond deepens, and Andrew begins to fear that stopping them may mean destroying their creator.
This one is delightfully fucked up. I can't decide whether the monsters these boys are fighting are real or if they're instead the product of some profound mental illnesses. These boys are codependent, for sure, and if the author isn't a closet Supernatural fan with a Wincest bent, then I'll eat my hat. There's bullying, one of them is autistic and has an eating disorder and the other might or might not be schizophrenic. There's also body horror, monsters that are written and/or drawn into existence, and a touch of Hogwarts without the magic wands.
There's asexual rep here, too, which has nothing to do with the monsters. This is not a romanceβit's definitely horror, though these boys do fall in love with each other. This (unlike The Dead of Summer) is what YA queer horror should be.
